Music in the Berkshires: Week of January 1

Happy New Year! Musically, it’s a quiet week here in The Berkshires, as many venues and performers take a little breather after a lively and joyful holiday season. While we have just 14 shows on our calendar this week, please don’t fret; we have lots of great music in the month ahead, plus the excitement that comes from anticipating all the incredible performances that will be announced in the coming months! Below are a few highlights, followed by the full show rundown.

Jazz

This week we have two jazz performances, both on Sunday. In the morning, catch the jazz brunch with David Bartley and Pete Toigo over at Dottie’s Coffee Lounge in Pittsfield. In the evening, you can wrap up your first week of 2024 with Michael Junkins and Friends at The Lion’s Den in Stockbridge.

Classical

We have no classical performances in the month of January on our music calendar, but hang tight, as the classical schedule picks up in February!

Popular (Rock, Pop, Folk, Blues, etc.)

You can celebrate New Year’s Day with Jack Waldheim over Antimony Brewing in Lenox. Then on Thursday, you have a great opportunity to see folk singer Avi Jacob (pictured above) at The Lion’s Den in Stockbridge.

Friday offers five performances. Those in North County might want to catch singer-songwriter Ciarra Fragale at Heart’s Pace in North Adams. Over at the Lion’s Den in Stockbridge, local folk favorites Bobby Sweet and Lara Tupper perform, and just up the road in Lenox, catch Nate Martel at Antimony Brewing or Mr. Doubtfire at Firefly Gastropub. If 80’s pop, rock, and new wave classics are your thing, then you’ll want to see The Brat Pack at Proprietor’s Lodge in Pittsfield.

Saturday has four performances. The rock and reggae band No Lens will be at Bright Ideas Brewing in North Adams. Stombox Trio returns to The Lion’s Den, and local favorite and Music in the Berkshires featured musician Misty Blues is at  Antimony Brewing in Lenox. Or, you can catch Brett and Steve’s Acoustic Jam at Knox Trail Inn in East Otis.

Sunday afternoon has one performance: at Bright Ideas Brewing in North Adams, you can catch pop, rock, and funk band Pogo.
