The Eagles Band, now in its 89th year in the Berkshires, returns to The Colonial Theatre with its fall concert program, Beyond the Horizon. This exhilarating evening of music will feature Rossano Galante’s title composition alongside audience favorites such as John Philip Sousa’s Beneath the Southern Cross, selections from John Williams’ soaring 1978 score to Superman and works by Gustav Holst and Morton Gould. The concert also includes a rare performance of the Zampa Overture by Fernand Hérold.
In honor of Veterans Day, the Band will present Richard Rodgers’ stirring music from the 1952 NBC documentary Victory at Sea and John Williams’ poignant “Hymn to the Fallen” from Saving Private Ryan. These selections, both deeply moving and powerful, highlight the Band’s commitment to honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans through music.
The Eagles Band is led by its newly appointed Principal Director, David Diggs, an internationally recognized conductor and musician who comes to Berkshire County after twenty-four years as Director of Bands at Lehigh University. Mr. Diggs has received numerous honors, including composing music for the Bands of the Household Division at Buckingham Palace and Honorary Membership in the Royal Society of Musicians, and was personally presented to H. M. Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle.
Composed of sixty-five musicians from Berkshire County and surrounding communities, The Eagles Band is beloved for its free summer park concerts in Pittsfield, Dalton and Lenox. The Colonial Theatre performance has become a highlight of the year for both the Band and its loyal audiences. Admission to this special program is free, but tickets are required and may be reserved through The Colonial Theatre box office.
