Tickets are now on sale for “Ten by Sax,” Berkshires Jazz’s entry in the annual 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival. This year’s concert, on Saturday, Feb. 15, is one of our most intriguing and creative programs yet: virtuoso Scott Robinson will be performing 10 numbers that were composed or made popular by 10 different jazz saxophonists. And…he will be doing this on 10 different saxophones!
The concert, which starts at 7:30pm, takes place at The Common Room at Zion Lutheran Church, a favored venue for music events in downtown Pittsfield.
Not many jazz artists could carry this off, but Scott has the chops and the hardware to make it happen. He has created a one-time program that will be performed with a Berkshires Jazz alll-star trio of Benny “Fingers” Kohn on piano, John Suters on bass, and Conor Meehan on drums.
A mainstay in the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Scott appears on 275 recordings under his own name, with Maria or other leaders. Throughout his career, he has worked to keep unusual and obscure instruments in the public view. We’re delighted to help carry on that initiative, and what better setting could there be?
With his roots (and family) in the Berkshires, Scott will be playing to a home-town crowd. Don’t miss out on this one-time opportunity.
