Juneteenth Celebration

June 16 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. It is also often observed for celebrating African-American culture. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865. Through your sponsorship, you are supporting the celebration of freedom of all Black-identifying Americans and the strength of the continued fight for equality within our country.

This year’s Juneteenth Celebration will be one of community, fun, food, dance, a photo booth, local Black businesses, family-friendly activites, art-making, spoken word, and music with DJ Young Champ. We are honored to celebrate at Durant Park in Pittsfield’s Westside neighborhood, a historically proud Black neighborhood. We hope you can help to sponsor such a celebration and even more importantly, join us in person to celebrate.

The festivities begin at 9:00 am, with musical performances from 1:30pm to 2:30 pm:
• Mari Flave, rapper and musician
• Noel Freeman, African dance
• Sample the Cat, rock band
• Wanda Houston, singer + songwriter
