The 22nd St. John’s Summer Free Noontime concert series continues with a performance by Charlotte Malin Collins (viola) and Sophie Lippert (piano). The program includes music by Clara Schumann, Karen Tanaka, Augusta Read Thomas, Charlotte Malin Collins, Rebecca Clarke, and. Astor Piazzolla.
Charlotte Malin Collins is a charismatic and soulful artist whose work spans classical viola and violin, intimate and ethereal songwriting, and boundary-pushing improvisation. A sought-after collaborator on the international stage, Collins has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and served as Principal Viola of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and with the Hartford, Albany, and Peninsula Festival Symphony orchestras. As a solo artist, she creates and performs original music under the name Althaea. Her debut album, Welcome Home, is set to release in September 2025. Sophie Lippert is a classical pianist, piano teacher, and founder of Connections Concert Series, praised for her dynamism, warmth, sensitivity, and expressiveness. Notable appearances include soloist roles with the Seattle Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, and Olympia Symphony, features at TEDxPortland and the Portland Art Museum, and on-air performances at All Classical Portland and New England Public Media. She has released two albums: Time Travel and Seaside, which are available on all streaming platforms.
As an entrepreneur, Sophie is committed to harnessing music as a conduit for connection and community, and performing and sharing music by underrepresented global female composers; she is proud to have recorded works by Karen Tanaka, Emahoy Tsegue-Maryam Guebrou, Lotti Amit-Kalev, and Ulric Cole. She currently resides in Amherst, MA.
