Despite the notable dip in temperatures – and our first dose of snow – the live music scene remains hot in Berkshire County as we move into the first full week of November. We have 42 shows on the calendar for the coming week – with an incredible mix of jazz, rock, indie, pop, folk, blues, classical, and even a children’s concert! Below are a few highlights, followed by the full show rundown.

Jazz
It’s a big week for jazz in the Berkshires, with the 2nd Annual Berkshires Jazz Sprawl taking place with eight performances over all seven days of the week – with two on Sunday. The performers are Mary Ann McSweeny Trio, Tarik Shah Quartet, Chris Pasin Quartet, Natalia Bernal, Benny Kohn, Howard Paul, Chantell McFarland, and culminating with a concert with the Django Festival Allstars. You can read about each of the performances below in the detailed show rundown. Many of the performances are free, but you’ll need a ticket for the Django Festival Allstars, and as of this writing, there are only about 20 tickets left.
In addition to the Jazz Sprawl performances, you’ll also find the Jazz Jam with Luke Franco at Dewey Hall in Sheffield on Wednesday. Troker is at MASS MoCA in North Adams on Saturday, performing the new soundtrack for the 1919 film El Automovil Gris. And on Sunday, jazz fans will be bopping all over the County since there are two additional performances (four in total, counting the two Jazz Sprawl events): a Jazz Brunch with Bobby MacVeety at Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield and Michael Junkins and Friends at The Lions Den in Stockbridge. That makes for an incredible week of jazz!
Classical
Classical music lovers have two great options this week, starting on Wednesday with a chamber performance by The New Consort as part of the Visiting Artist Series at Williams College in Williamstown. Then, on Sunday, you’ll find The Berkshire Bach: The Ensemble Harpsichord with Elliot Figg and Caitlyn Koester at Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington. They will perform harpsichord works by J.S. & W.F. Bach and Louis & François Couperin.
Popular (Rock, Pop, Folk, Blues, etc.)
We have roughly 27 performances In the popular music genres – too many to cover all here, but we will hit on a few highlights. The week starts off strong on Wednesday with the rock, folk, and indie artist Al Olender with opener Bridget Dugan at Egremont Barn. Thursday at the Barn, you can see local favorites Jordan Weller & Bobby Sweet, local favorite Lisa Michelle Anderson at Dream Away Lodge, or catch Nashville-based Celtic, folk, and Americana artist Emerald Rae at The Lion’s Den.
On Friday, we have two local favorites performing: Misty Blues at Berkshire Palate in Pittsfield and U.S. Elevator & Friends at The Lion’s Den in Stockbridge, featuring local rocker Johnny Irion. We also have three touring performers: the AC/DC tribute band Back in Black with The Goonies at The Stationery Factory in Dalton, The National Reserve at Egremont Barn, and Chris Murphy at Dream Away Lodge in Becket. Chris, who now lives in Los Angeles but studied at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music, will be performing again Saturday night.
Saturday’s shows include An Evening with The Mammals (pictured above) & Sarah Lee Guthrie at Egremont Barn. It will be a great night – and is sold out as predicted in our weekly newsletter, but The Barn tells us there may be a few tickets available at the door. Also on Saturday, you’ll find Beatlemania Again at Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield and Steve Adams & The Tangled Party CD Release at The Stationery Factory. Steve is releasing his 3rd album of original material, produced beautifully by Bobby Sweet. Tourists in North Adams is hosting a double-billing with the unconventional cellist Trevor Exter and folk, old-time, and bluegrass artist Nathan Bowles.
Sunday’s shows include rockers Minor Moon, performing twice in North Adams, first at Bright Ideas Brewing and then later with Adeline Hotel at Tourists. Or you can catch rockers Tyler & the Names at Dream Away Lodge in Becket.
Something Else
In our “Something Else” category, we have a concert band performance by The Eagles Band at The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield. The performance will include pieces by John Philip Sousa, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copeland, Percy Grainger, William Schuman, and John Williams. And on Saturday afternoon, we have a performance that will make parents and kids happy: A Saturday afternoon Kids Concerts with Terry A La Berry and Friends at Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield.
