The calendar flips to March this week, bringing meteorological spring, warmer and longer days, and more incredible live music to the Berkshires. We have 34 performances on our music calendar, spanning a wide range of genres, including classical, jazz, rock, pop, folk, funk, soul, bluegrass, blues, and a children’s concert. Below are a few highlights of the week ahead, followed by our full show rundown.
Classical
We have three classical music performances this week. On Friday, the Williams Chamber Players perform at Williams College, presenting works by Shostakovich, Schnittke, Reger, and Eleanor Alberga. Sunday afternoon offers two performances, both in Great Barrington. The Orchestra Now: Schumann’s Piano Concerto is at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. The concerto will be performed by Yilin Li, a winner of the 2022 Bard Conservatory Concerto Competition. Bach and Paganini Solo Violin Music is at St. James Place. Baroque violinist Edson Scheid, concertmaster of Crescendo’s Period Instrument Orchestra, will perform.
Jazz
It’s a great week for jazz, with seven performances, starting on Monday with some Latin jazz performed by Natalia Bernal and Jason Ennis at the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield. The jazz continues Thursday with Music in the Berkshires featured musician Andy Wrba & Friends at The Lion’s Den in Stockbridge. Joining Andy this week are Wanda Houston, Ed Moran, Benny Kohn, and Conor Meehan.
